Coastal links north of Auckland

Te Arai Links runs along a stretch of coast about two hours north of Auckland, near Mangawhai. It's built around two links courses - one by Tom Doak, one by Coore and Crenshaw - that rank among the finest anywhere.

The buildings sit low in the dunes, designed to belong to the coast rather than stand out from it, with interiors by Jenni Kayne that stay calm and natural. You can stay in an Ocean View Room, a two-bedroom Ocean Cottage or a four-bedroom Villa.

Golf isn't the only draw. There's surfing, mountain biking, tennis, pickleball and several restaurants on site, from wood-fired pizza to an ocean-view dining room. Good for golfers, and just as good for anyone who wants wide beaches and quiet by the sea.
